Cartier Santos Carrée 2961
Icons are born out of tragedies.
In 1917, Louis Cartier, inspired by the clean, geometric lines of the Renault FT-17 tanks, designed the iconic Cartier Tank watch. It was first marketed in 1919.
The Tank collection was distinguished by its rectangular case, which was very bold compared to the popular round watches of the time.
Evolving on the fringes of its compatriots, the Cartier Tank was worn by influential personalities throughout the 20th century, such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Andy Warhol and Princess Diana, reinforcing its iconic image.
The Cartier Tank, and its evolutions, remain a symbol of elegance and refinement, combining art and watchmaking in a unique way.
This is a two-tone steel-gold Tank, with a white dial and black Roman numerals. The hour, minute and seconds hands are superimposed in blued steel. A window at 3 o'clock displays the date.
